Feb. 20th, 2012 -- On February 20th at 2pm EST (21:00 IST), join UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Mia Farrow & UNICEF for their Google Plus hangout from Bukavu, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Her stop in Bukavu in the conflict torn region of South Kivu, is part of a 10-day tripthrough Chad and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to support a global push to make polio a part of the past. Lack of proper nutrition, clean water, basic health care and conflict are some of the obstacles to eradicating the crippling disease.
Mia Farrow will be joined by UNICEF staff in the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as colleagues from India, a country that in January for the first time reported no new polio cases in a year. Mia Farrow, who had polio as a child, will also be joined by colleagues in Pakistan, one of four countries where polio is still endemic. In addition, students, bloggers, and activists from around the world will be ‘hanging out’ on Google Plus and will share their own personal stories and questions with Mia Farrow regarding her trip and work for UNICEF. We will also be selecting a random fan to ‘hangout’ with us before the event, based on questions directed at Mia using the corresponding hash tag (so start asking your questions now!). A moderator will select questions from UNICEF’s online communities to ask Mia Farrow directly about her own experiences, as well.
To Participate: Visit us on UNICEF's Google Plus page (plus.ly/unicef) before the actual event, which takes place on February 20th at 2pm EST (21:00 IST).
Use the hash tag #miaCONGO to ask your question to Mia Farrow or UNICEF staff via Twitter or Google Plus before or during the event. UNICEF and Google Plus staff will ensure that questions are directed to the relevant participants.
